My Old Book Now Newly Published!

Yall, I thought I had lost all digital copies of my old book, The South is Still Rising: Radical and Anarchist Movements in Richmond, VA from 1994-2004. The independent, IWW union print shop I used to publish the first 2 editions is out of business. Thanks to extra time during this quarantine, I have been able to find it!! And the cover artwork my friend Will Gowdy designed for me! So now my book is available on amazon as a paperback and kindle as an ebook. I am not loving amazon, but I do not have another way I can afford to get my book out there into the world at this time. There are hard copies of this and my newer haiku book at Small Friend Books and Records and Chop Suey Books two local Richmond book stores I love.

This book was something I researched and wrote as my Div 3 at Hampshire College – basically a senior thesis if you will. It has info on food not bombs, civil rights, critical mass, queer liberation, earth liberation, anti war and other movements in Richmond. 2017 – New Year, New Businesses

I am trying to figure out my post baby plan, but right now that seems to include a revamping of our first business, Karnage Creations LLC. I am a licensed contractor, and the work we like to do is restoring historic windows. We prefer to do larger jobs, more along the lines of being subcontracted in a home renovation project than handman odd jobs. Welp, They Fenced Off Monroe Park – Here is your background a little too late

They finally fenced off Monroe Park, much to the suprise of people who didn’t follow the issue from 2010-2014. I am honestly so pissed and frustrated and busy I can’t write a big ol opinion piece on this at this time. Instead, allow me to suggest that folks read the DOZENS of opinion pieces and articles that were written on this issue over the 4 years we fought tooth and nail against this crappy, gentrifying, neoliberal nonsense plan.

Budget Bozos

City of Richmond’s budget is an ongoing soap opera of whodunits and epic missteps. It would be hilarious if it was just a TV show with some crack pot protagonists. Unfortunately, the crack pots are the politicians and the results of budget failures are very real. It ends up being less than funny for frustrated tax payers.

The latest boondoggle for Richmond is the proposed Maggie Walker statue and plaza. Originally intended to be funded with private money, now the Planning Commission has overlooked that 2010 resolution and are estimating a combined cost of $900,000 for the statue and plaza. Some, including members of the Public Arts Commission ( http://rvamag.com/articles/full/26318/public-arts-commission-members-protest-approval-of-maggie-walker-statue )    see this as a last gasp from Mayor Jones to resurrect his reputation. Others just see this as a continuation of luxury spending while basic services try to go down the drain, but can’t because the sewer gutters are blocked and flooding the streets. (more…)
